Are you able to offer a half-way house for hounds at risk of euthanasia in council kennels? Or perhaps a hound that needs overnight monitoring following surgery? Emergency fostering may be for you!
Emergency Fostering
What Is Emergency Fostering?
Emergency Fostering is exactly what it says on the tin, bringing in hounds on short notice who may be coming from a bit of a sticky situation and need somewhere safe to go...if only for a couple of days!

Emergency Fosters may provide accommodation for hounds that come in due to serious welfare concerns, owners fleeing domestic violence or that are at risk of being euthanised within the council stray dog kennels. These hounds often need a half-way home before being transported to their placement rescue elsewhere in the country or until a Team Zoomie foster home comes available.

On such occasions, fostering might just be for the night, but could be a few days to to a week or two while the logistics are organised.

Emergency fostering would be well suited to households where someone is home the majority of the time such as those who work from home, are retired or otherwise have a flexible schedule.

If you choose to foster, we’ll provide everything you need*. All we ask is you give your foster hound all the love, attention and care that you can, as if they are your own hound regardless of whether you have them for a few hours or a few days.
Some may require medication or follow behaviour plans, but you will have the full support of our team throughout the foster period.
When you emergency foster with us, you get:
-
The reward of helping hounds without the long-term commitment
-
The reward of providing safe haven to hounds that would otherwise lose their lives
-
Food, equipment and veterinary care will be provided*
-
Full support from our experienced team and complete confidentiality
*Food, enrichment and equipment will be provided, and neccesary veterinary costs covered, by The Zoomie Zone for the duration of the foster period, provided that foster carers follow the instructions and guidelines set out by our team. It is not possible to reinburse unauthorised purchases. Please note that the dogs are not insured while in our care, and each veterinary visit represents an ongoing cost to the charity. In the case of injuries or unexpected expenses resulting from a direct breach of the fostering contract, for example, allowing the foster dog off-lead in a public park, resulting in a dog fight, we would ask that the foster carer make contribution toward the associated costs.

How Do You Sign Up?
If you are interested in fostering, or would like some further information, please contact us to book in a call!
Foster application calls take up to an hour. During this time we will discuss you, your home, routine and a great many other aspects to ensure it is a safe and welcoming environment for a hound in need. We will also discuss your experience, and what type of fostering you want to register for and the types of hounds you feel confident and comfortable taking on.
After we’ve done this, we will arrange a home check to come and meet you in person and ensure the home and garden is secure.
If all goes well, and we’re happy to proceed with your application, we’ll sign you up as a foster carer and call you as and when an emergency arises!
