The Weather: The Dictator Of Walks
For many hound owners, they get stuck on the doorstep as their hound does their pre-flight checks to decide whether they want to venture out. The weather often dictates if they are going to brave it, and for those of us who are lucky, we don't need to go out in the rain at all!
One of the best things about having a greyhound is their preference for warmth, comfort and all-round laziness. As a result of this (and we’re generalising pretty hard right now), they are fair weather walkers.
We’re quite lucky in that our selection of hounds will categorically refuse to go out for walks unless the weather is anything other than perfect. We’ve given up offering, unless they ask to go out when it’s raining, snowing or otherwise windier than a light breeze, we just go about our normal day.
In fact, our hounds are so averse to the rain that we’re quite certain that one of them holds the record for refusing to go out to the toilet because of it. 16 hours. Wouldn’t even go into the garden. She must have been absolutely busting, but she would not step foot outside.
They are the epitome of fair-weather walkers, and we’re more than happy with that. Really, who wants to go walking in the rain and get drenched through before they’ve even really fully woken up in the morning? Let’s leave that to the lab and spaniel owners!
It’s one of the many desirable qualities in having a greyhound.
Although it always amuses us when we do see hounds out in the rain. They look so utterly unimpressed with the world! Though it does give us hound owners an excuse to have an entire wardrobe of coats available for the occasion.
The weather has been so lovely lately that it was all very disappointing to see it absolutely hammering it down outside this morning. Which got us thinking, how many of your hounds are fair weather walkers, and how many brave the rain on principle that they will have their walk despite hating every single drop that touches them?
